Lindholme Manor was built for purpose as the home of House Cauldwell, the overseers of the respective region of Lindholme. Headed by the prestigious Lord Bex Cauldwell, the reigning family saw to it that the economy of the market region remained steady, if only with a gentle and unwavering upwards climb into prosperity. Bex, having been gifted reign over Lindholme by his father, took a young bride from the settlements below and paved the way for a family consisting of four sons and a youngest daughter - Harriet.
As represented by the shield icon of the hound, the sons of Cauldwell had built an affinity for game and hunting, acquiring a steady collection of horses and dogs alike over the years. After being bought from a foreign trading caravan, Benedict proved himself to be a remarkable sighthound as well as companion, and was as such given the right to roam the halls of the manor interior as he liked. In doing so, he developed a gentle and close bond with Harriet, whose adoration for the borzoi exceeded any value she held over toys or playdates. Meanwhile, rumours amongst the servants whispered stories of Bex's recent involvement with a woman of dubious nature. The Lord had become reclusive over time, falling ever out of love with both his wife and children as his so-called advisor drew nearer.
A ghastly tale tells of Lord Bex, who - under the influence of witchcraft - lured Benedict away from Harriet's side before shutting him out of her bedroom. A cacophony of a young girl's screams and a dog's barking formed, combining into a bloodcurdling sound which awoke nigh everyone who resided within the manor. Guards took flight from their posts to shove the door down; only to behold Bex as he drove a dagger repeatedly through the ribcage of his young daughter. No might of the guards could pull him away from his work, and only a blade through the back of the skull caused his mania to cease. Benedict lay by the girl's side, but she had long passed. It took a day's convincing for the dog to allow another near her body.
Only days passed when the Lady of the manor declared that the family move on. The grief which the manor had brought upon her was far to heavy a burden, and the witch was nowhere to be found. Harriet, who had already been buried beneath the garden she adored so much, remained under the watch of Benedict who refused to stray even a few feet from her grave. Mournful over further loss yet unwilling to witness the death of another, the family left the dog to his mourning. He has remained ever since.
